    Estate sale find, vintage original steel plate engraving depicting a View of The City of Louisville and the Ohio River, Kentucky, from Picturesque America or The Land we Live In, circa 1872.
    Displays nicely, would look wonderful matted and framed.

    “Picturesque America” was published in 1873 by D. Appleton & Co. The two-volume set was edited by William Cullen Bryant, an American romantic poet, journalist, and long-time editor of the New York Evening Post who was also a romantic poet.
    The “Picturesque America” book series described and illustrated the scenery of America, which grew out of an earlier series in Appleton’s Journal. The work’s essays, together with its 50 steel engravings, are considered to have had a profound influence on the growth of tourism and the historic preservation movement in the United States.
